The Why are we here Project is an art initiative that started in June 2021. Through posters in public spaces people are asked fundamental question; Why are we here? And are invited to answer it through an email address. This project highlights the importance of questioning our existence while presenting a question that might seem obvious at first glance but in reality, is very profound to answer.
It is important to acknowledge this question because it can open a door of reflection towards life itself, towards the fact that there are some important questions left unanswered. The Why are we here Project enables a space of reflection and its purpose lays on the questioning itself more than on the need to find one universal truth. In the intersection between art and philosophy very interesting conversations can source.
So far, the project has received over 600 answers to the question ‘Why are we here?’ that come from various points of view upon life. The initiative is meant to keep on growing, putting this question out on the streets while highlighting it over pink and blue posters.

Seit Juni 2021 hat immer wieder eine Guerilla-Aktion in unterschiedlichen Stadtteilen Berlin statt gefunden. Im Wedding, in Prenzlaueberg, Tiergarten, Mitte, Kreuzberg, Friedrichshain, Neuköln und Schöneber wurden rosa, gelben oder blauen A4 Blätter auf Posten, Kasten und Wänden als illegale Plakatierung geklebt, um den vorbeigehenden Stadtmenschen eine grundlegende philosophische Frage zu stellen – Warum sind wir hier? Und tatsächlich haben bis jetzt über 600 Menschen einen Emailadressenzettel von dem Blatt abgerissen, um ihre Antworten per Mail einer*m unbekannten Befrager*in zukommen zu lassen.
Die A4-Poster sind sehr einfach gestalltet, und lassen es nicht erkennen, dass es um ein künstlerisches Vorhaben geht. Viel mehr geht es hier um eine einfache Geste im öffentlichen Raum, um Infragestellung unserer individuellen Existenz. Die Geste unterstreicht, wie wichtig es ist, unser Dasein zu hinterfragen.
